Programme Overview:

This programme can be pursued by prospective students who wish to study the biological processes at the molecular and the cellular level. The Aim of the course illustrates the understanding of the biological processes that perform basic functions in living cells; how cellular information is stored as genetic information encoded in DNA and expressed as specific proteins. It also demonstrates how enzymes and other proteins exert their functions, how cell function is regulated and work in a coordinated metabolic system which highlights the controlled growth and differentiation of cells. Biochemistry isn’t just about life, itcomprises study of disciplines ranging from molecular biology, genetic engineering, proteomics and immunology.

Career Opportunities:

Due to its multidisciplinary nature, Biochemistry course comprises employment in fast growing areas of research and technology and will have an excellent set of career options ahead of you. This course allows students to enter in different research areas including interdisciplinary research areas including bioengineering and tissue engineering, and thus open lot of possibilities for students to join as PhD, Junior research fellow in research institutes and Universities. In the public sector as well as in commercial sector, biochemist are in great demand in research institutes, government departments, the National Health Service, forensic science and the Environment Agency, as well as in commercial sector such as pharmaceutical, food, biotechnology, water and agriculture industries. This course also encourages the student to take research and teaching as a career and can work a Lecturer and Assistant professor
